Why we are homeschooling

I have had several friends and most of my family ask me this over the last couple of months.

Four weeks in!

We just wrapped up our 4th week of school, and we have had so much fun!

Mondays...

Mondays are usually the craziest day of the week for us (as I'm sure they are for most). But today was a little different, and a lot better.

School today

As excited as she was a week ago, Mercedes is already starting to ask when we will be done with lessons and on to crafts, lol. The good thing is that she *loves* to write, even for math, so I am just going to incorporate more writing and some more hands-on activities into our language arts and math curriculum. She has already memorized her first poem ("The Caterpillar", which was an assignment from First Language Lessons). She also read aloud a 2nd grade level book today, yay! History is already full of hands-on activities. Today we did our first lesson on Egypt and the girls asked if they could make mummies out of each other with toilet paper. I decided I could spare a roll of tissue for the sake of learning, so....

I love this little guy

He is growing up too fast. It bothers me more than it did with the girls, probably because he is our last. It blows my mind that he is already sitting up, crawling (fast!), and pulling up. I could sit and watch him play and discover everything for hours. I got down on the floor with him today just to get a few pictures, and of course Millie wandered in to get her picture made too...

Our days right now...

So we are trying to settle into the homeschooling schedule right now. It amazes me that, although I have been a "stay at home mom" for 4 years now, my days have only been significantly structured for about a year now. Maybe it was the 3rd kid? Anyways, ever since we started homeschooling I am always interested to read about other HS moms' schedules, so I thought I would post about ours.

So I just want to be like everyone else....

Finally started a blog. I have no major aspirations for this thing, just want to keep a centralized record of our homeschooling days and other family stuff. And because I HATE uploading pics to Facebook!
